Agricultural Commodities
MALAWI
The Malawi economy is mainly agro based. The agricultural sector contributes to approximately 40 % of the country’s GDP .
It is estimated that there is 4.7 Million Ha of arable land of which roughly 2.5 Million Ha is under cultivation.
Small holder farmers work on 70 % of the land under cultivation and the remaining being under estates (with Tobacco, Tea, Coffee, Macadamia and Maize being the main products under commercial farming).
The Company is primarily an exporter of agricultural products grown by smallholder farmers in Malawi.
The produce includes, Pigeon Peas, Chick Peas, Cow Peas, Soya Beans, Beans – Red Kidney, Navy, Speckled etc, Ground Nuts – mainly Red Skinned (CG7) and Chalimbana (large nut) varieties. There is also availability of Mung, Sesame and Sunflower Seeds but in rather limited quantities for exports.
We have developed a bit of a specialisation in the export of Dry Bird’s Eye Chillies over the years serving customers in South Africa, UK and the Far East.
Malawi is a major exporter of Tobacco, Tea, Coffee and Macadamia Nuts. We have so far not ventured into these lines.
Whereas most commodities are bought directly from farmers and re-graded and packaged for export, there are value added products sourced from Mill Owners (Dhal Millers) that also form part of our export range. These are pulses including Oiled and Plain Tur Dhal and Channa Dhal.
We have built a reputation with rural farming communities over a two decade period where we traded as a family partnership while working full time jobs in our professional fields.
With increased financial resources being invested in the export trade and more time available to Vijay and Param Kumar to devote to the business it has become necessary to become a legal/corporate entity. This was done in late 2014, under registration number 13796 under the Companies Act of Malawi.
